How I Work-in My Workout

How I Work-in My Workout

Sponsored by Athleta

I recently transitioned into a new position as a therapist at a university counseling center, where I spend 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. This being my first full-time gig, it has definitely taken some adjusting and getting used to! I think one of the most difficult challenges is that I am sitting at a desk or in a chair for most of the day. Thankfully, I do get 1-hour lunch breaks in the middle of the day- the perfect time to get up, move and eat lunch. I try to fit in at least 20-30 minutes of movement each work day, whether it’s taking a walk or more commonly, fitting in some yoga stretches. In order to do this, it’s so important that I wear clothes to work that allow for that kind of movement. I found the perfect pieces from Athleta that pull off so well for both work and a quick yoga break during lunch. My favorite work-day outfit necessities include the Stellar Crop Pant, Caliber Tank, Cloudburst Jacket and the Swissvale Bomber Sweater. You can see below how I incorporated these pieces. Keep scrolling to find out what my go-to yoga poses are for lunch breaks!

The Stellar Crop Pant is both so sophisticated and stretchy enough to feel comfortable sitting on the ground in. My first step trying to find some movement in the middle of the day is actually to start off with some stillness and do some inner work. I will sit and breathe to reset from the day for a few minutes, followed by some light sitting stretches that can be done either on the ground or in your chair at work. I love a good side stretch and side twist to feel like I’m opening up my lungs and wringing out the stress.

The perfect top for a mid-day stretch is the Caliber Tank, which feels so soft and easy to move in and throw a cute jacket on top of (my faves are the Cloudburst Jacket and the Swissvale Bomber Sweater). I always try to fit in a good forward fold and hip-opener, both of which are so important for people who do a lot of sitting.

Being part of the #WorkInYourWorkout challenge with Athleta made me feel so much more productive at work! I will definitely be incorporating these moves and many more during my lunch breaks from here on out. It’s the perfect way to reset and energize for a successful rest of the day. If you’re looking for some cute new pieces to wear to work that are also soft and stretchy enough for mid-day movement, Athleta is it!
