Packing and Moving Tips

Packing and Moving Tips

Moving can be filled with such a range of many emotions- excitement, fear, nervousness, etc. Transitioning into a new space can be a bit overwhelming for most, especially if you’re thinking about all of the changes ahead. I recently moved to Boulder, Colorado and I started my packing and moving process a month before the actual day of my move and I honestly feel that it went so smoothly and fairly stress-free, so I wanted to share some tips!

A month before my move, I made it a goal to get rid of 50% of my possessions, which meant less packing and less things to move. This was definitely difficult, but I tend to get many products, clothing, etc. since I’m a blogger working with brands often. I got rid of a lot of excess beauty products, as well as clothing and shoes that I hadn’t worn in a while or didn’t feel had a purpose for me. I would say I successfully got rid of 50% of my belongings and it felt so good!

Because I work full-time Monday-Friday and knew I was traveling every weekend until my move, I used my evenings during the week to slowly pack each room. I started with taking things off of the walls, decorations and fragile things. On the last week I packed things from my kitchen, as well as clothing and shoes. This made me feel good throughout the month and made sure that I was not procrastinating and packing last-minute. I used boxes from Lowe’s and Home Depot, as well as packing bubble wrap. Here’s a big tip: always get more boxes and packing tape than you think you might need. You can always return it! This will save you from making the same mistake I did: 4 trips back and forth to get more boxes, tape, etc.

My last and biggest tip is hiring a moving company. During my move a year ago, I worked with Two Men and a Truck to help me move and it was the best decision I could have ever made. I had to do it again this year around and I’m glad I did. They take such good care of your belongings and have extra padding, boxes, etc. to transfer furniture, mirrors and other fragile things you have. They were so efficient, friendly and made everything so much easier overall. I felt really comfortable with them transferring all my belongings to my new home. The cool thing about them that I might consider next time is that they also have a packing service! If you’re moving soon, definitely consider hiring this company because I’ve been more than happy with my experiences with them so far. Happy Moving!
